A History of Hockley; Medieval Remnants
We ran a session every Wednesday looking through different mediums of archives such as Official Records, Maps, Photos and Images and Oral History. We’ve categorised these archives, into three different sections to understand old Hockley better. They are, (i) Medieval Remnants, (ii) Religion and Social Change, (iii) Shopping and The Arts.
During the Archivist investigation in the local and national archives, the space where nonsuch used to be, when the building was being constructed in 1934, a discovery of approximately 90 skeletons were made. Archaeologist; Scott Lomax, believes that these bodies are from the 15th Century, and potentially could have connections to the outbreaks of The Plague during that period.
